What the Degree Actually Buys You?
A UGC-DEB entitled online BCA is a valid undergraduate qualification for employment, government recruitment and postgraduate admission. Amity Online and Manipal University Jaipur additionally hold WES recognition, which matters if you plan to have the degree evaluated abroad. Anyone still calling an online BCA not a real degree is working from information that predates the current UGC regulations.
What it buys is eligibility to be considered not a seat in a campus placement drive. Online programmes offer placement assistance: resume workshops, mock interviews, an internal job portal. That is not a recruiter arriving on campus with offer letters, and the gap between the two is the largest source of disappointment among online BCA graduates.
The Word That Changes Everything: Full Time
TCS's flagship All India NQT is open to B.Tech, B.E., M.Tech, M.E., MCA and M.Sc candidates BCA does not appear on that list in any specialisation. BCA graduates route instead through TCS BSc Ignite and Smart Hiring, which specifies 3 years full time graduates from BCA. Infosys applies a comparable condition, requiring a full time degree recognised by the Central or State Government.
Whether a UGC entitled online degree satisfies a full time clause is decided by each recruiter's HR policy, not by UGC, and large services firms have historically read it conservatively. Some now hire online degree holders into software and analyst roles; others screen them out at document verification. Treat blanket claims in either direction with suspicion and ask the drive helpdesk before investing in preparation.
What the Employability Data Says?
- Overall Indian Employability: 56.35% in the India Skills Report 2026, up from 54.81%, across 100,000+ candidate assessments.
- Computer Science Graduates: 80% employability, the highest of any discipline; IT engineers follow at 78%.
- Fresher Hiring Intent: 40% for FY 2026-27, against 29% the previous year, led by technology.
- Freshers as a Share of IT Hires: 35%, up from a cross industry average of 14%.
- AI in Screening: 70% of IT companies now use AI in recruitment, making keyword aligned resumes and verifiable project links matter more than the institution's name.
- Most In-demand Skills: AI, data analytics, cloud computing, cybersecurity.
So, Is It Enough?
Enough to be considered; not enough on its own. This is the most hireable discipline in the country, yet one in five computer science graduates still fails the readiness bar, and a certificate does not close that gap. Shipped projects, a public code repository, verifiable certifications and the ability to clear a live coding round do all four buildable while you study.
The real limitation is the ceiling, not entry. Against a services firm drive with a fixed degree list, BCA narrows your options and an online BCA may narrow them further. Many graduates treat it as stage one and follow with an Online MCA Course, which reopens routes that exclude BCA outright TCS's NQT accepts MCA where it does not accept BCA. Where postgraduate study is already planned, an Online MCA Course beats another undergraduate credential.
Compare entitlement status and specialisation tracks on University Vidya, then confirm every detail against the official portal, since aggregator listings go stale between intakes. University Vidya narrows a longlist; it does not replace the UGC-DEB check.
